Packaging and Labeling for Ocean and Air Cargo

Packaging and Shipping Mark preparations for safe handling and cargo identification.

Export packaging should match product weight, sensitivity to impact or moisture, stacking method, and transport journey. Ocean cargo may need protection from prolonged humidity and stacking loads, while air cargo also requires attention to weight and terminal handling.

Outer labels and Shipping Marks should match document package numbers and remain legible and securely attached. Orientation, fragile, or moisture markings should be used only when they describe actual handling needs.

What to prepare

  • Impact and moisture protection suitable for the goods
  • Consignee, destination, and Package No. on each unit
  • Weight and outer dimensions
  • Required handling and orientation pictograms
  • Applicable requirements for wood packaging
  • Labels consistent with the Invoice and Packing List
